Live It Up in Cowtown
7 places around Fort Worth guaranteed to make you feel like a kid again
No matter how old you are, no one likes being dragged down by the drudgery of grown-up responsibilities. The following places in and around Fort Worth specialize in helping adults recapture the carefree feeling of being a kid, even if only for a couple of hours.
Coyote Drive-In
Seeing a great movie can always make you feel young again, but there's something about seeing a double feature at a drive-in that makes the experience extra special. Coyote Drive-In has been providing that element of nostalgia since 2013, and has even hosted special events like a Jimmy Buffett concert and the annual Panther Island Ice.
Barcadia
The Fort Worth branch of Barcadia has been offering the tantalizing combo of classic video games and booze since 2011. You'll find the place packed on the weekends, so veterans know to go during the week if they don't want to wait to play Donkey Kong Junior, Street Fighter II, Track & Field, or giant Jenga.
Main Event
The demise of Lucky Strike at West 7th has left Fort Worth with a dearth of bowling alleys that don't feel aimed at either just families or hardcore bowlers. Until the opening of the new Pinstack sometime in 2016, Main Event (which, coincidentally, has a new location opening up in 2016 virtually across the street from Pinstack) is your best bet, as it offers billiards, karaoke, laser tag, and video games, as well as a full bar, to go along with bowling at the south Fort Worth location.
Horseback riding at Stockyard Stables
Since Fort Worth is affectionately known as Cowtown, what could be better than acting like you're a cowboy for a little while? You can saddle up seven days a week at this outfit in the Fort Worth Stockyards, which will take you for either a 30-minute or 1-hour ride down the Chisholm Trail and along the Trinity River.
Explore the Trinity River
When the weather is warm, you can enjoy one of the Fort Worth's best treasures, the Trinity River. You can either go your own way and rent a paddleboard, kayak, or canoe from Backwoods Paddlesports, or be led on a morning or evening tour. Both options are available March through October, giving you a solid 8-month window to revel in the great outdoors.
Cowtown Cycle Party
Downtown Fort Worth is a happening place, especially on the weekends, and you can travel the streets in style with Cowtown Cycle Party. With seating for up to 16 people, groups — with the help of a designated driver — provide their own power and pedal around downtown or Near Southside. You can even bring your own beer or wine and really live it up while burning off some calories at the same time.
Adult Nights at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History
If you like the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History but don't want to deal with the crowds and kids during the day, the museum occasionally offers Adult Nights for anyone 18 and older. You'll get semi-exclusive access to the museum's special exhibitions, hands-on activities, and programs while enjoying music, drinks, and food. These special nights are only put on a few times a year, so make sure to check their website for dates and times.
