Grapevine's new dog park will open with some splashy pooch amenities
The pups will finally get their hangout in Grapevine when the city's long-awaited Bark Park at Bear Creek Park arrives.
According to a release, the park is near completion and has a grand opening event penciled in for Saturday, November 2, at 3230 South State Hwy. 360.
Kevin Mitchell, director of Grapevine Parks and Recreation, says in a statement that they're beyond excited for the park to open.
"We would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding throughout design and construction," Mitchell says. "We invite you all to come out and enjoy this beautiful park addition."
Dogs will have to wait a little longer to run free in this city as a sewer project and heavy rains delayed construction of the city’s first dog park.
Grapevine had been planning an off-the-leash dog park at Big Bear Creek Park for several years, with a forecast opening date of 2018. But the project had to wait until the Trinity River Authority installed a 48-inch sewer line through the property.
That project was delayed by heavy rains and took longer than anticipated. Construction began in January 2019, and now the opening is near.
"Grapevine residents voted on a dog park in 2016, and we are proud to meet the needs of our community and create a place that our families can gather together with their four-legged family,” says Grapevine Mayor William D. Tate in a statement.
The Bark Park will encompass a total of 14 acres on both sides of Bear Creek Park. It will feature four enclosed off-leash areas, also known as paddocks, that can accommodate different size dogs and activities.
Some paddocks will be available to reserve for special events and parties of all kinds.
Special features include:
- doggie splash pad
- agility course
- shade structures
- an all-weather area
The doggie splash pad is being sponsored by Hollywood Feed, and will allow for motion activation with various directional water jets.
Hollywood Feed President Shawn McGhee says they're honored to be involved. "This dog park will provide pets and their owners a wonderful place to socialize — and the splash pad will help keep pets cool while they play," he says. "It is our pleasure to give back to the very community that supports us."
The grand opening event is free and open to the public and their pups of all sizes. There will be a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony starting at 10 am, followed by vendor booths and activities throughout the park, including prize giveaways.
