Fort Worth is about to get its first dedicated pickle shop, thanks to a beloved local company. Called Best Maid Pickle Emporium, it'll be a branded storefront coming to the Near Southside at 829 W. Vickery Blvd.

According to Best Maid's marketing director Emily Christy, the shop will open October 23.

Best Maid Pickles has been in business since 1926, when the Dalton family first started a backyard garden to make relish. But the company got a big shot of exposure in 2019 after partnering up with Martin House Brewing, the Fort Worth craft beer brewer, who featured Best Maid's pickle juice in a series of pickled-themed beers.

The beers were massively popular; Martin House has since added the basic Pickle Beer to its permanent lineup. And just like that, Best Maid was suddenly hip.

The shop will sell pickles; other pickled and jarred items such as pickled okra and BBQ sauce; and Best Maid merchandise including T-shirts, branded Yeti-style insulated cups, and gift items. There are also displays of marketing materials including some vintage items.

Products include:

  • sour pickles
  • Kosher style dills
  • snappy garlic dills
  • extreme hots
  • sweet relish
  • dill relish
  • sandwich spread
  • sweet jalapeno relish
  • jalapeno-mustard relish
  • jalapeno bread-n-butters
  • Kosher spears
  • pickled okra
  • beer pickles - made with Martin House Brewing Salty Lady beer

The store also has a lifesize "mascot" named Smiley, the smiling brunette featured on their labels.

Pickles and fermented foods of all kinds have become a big foodie trend, and a pickle-themed store called Pickletopia opened in Dallas in 2018.

Best Maid's store is located in the newly named "Texas Cultural District," in a sweet brick building at the corner of College Avenue built in 1930 that has previously been home to businesses such as a law firm and a pool repair business.

According to J.O. Agency, Best Maid specifically wanted a historical Fort Worth building for its first storefront. The interior features exposed brick that adds a nice touch of history.
