DFW chain Hoffbrau Steak & Grill closes location after barely a year
In the push-and-pull of Hoffbrau steakhouse news, the Grapevine location of Hoffbrau Steak & Grill House has closed.
According to a post from the restaurant, its last day was Sunday, February 18.
"We are sad to announce that Sunday, February 18, 2024 was our last night serving great steaks at Hoffbrau Steak & Grill House in Grapevine," the post said. We want to thank our incredible team at Hoffbrau and our fantastic guests for their support as we enjoyed this adventure. It has been an immense pleasure to be welcomed into the Grapevine community and we have enjoyed our time with Hoffbrau in this beautiful town."
The closure is a bit of a surprise, coming a little over a year after it opened in November 2022 at 700 W. SH-114 in a former Brick House Tavern & Tap, which closed during the pandemic.
Hoffbrau was founded in 1978 and has been owned by husband-and-wife Aron and Rainey Fogiel since 1988. In 2020, their children Natalie Fogiel Moon and Patrick joined the team. There are currently four other locations in Amarillo, Benbrook, Granbury, and Haltom City.
Their menu is centered on Angus beef steaks, plus chicken-fried steak, Dr Pepper pork ribs, Shiner Bock fried mushrooms, and "Texas Pesos" fried jalapenos. The bar features local beer on tap plus cocktails such as margaritas and old-fashioneds.
A Hoffbrau in Fort Worth on South University Drive, which had been there for 38 years, closed in 2020 when they couldn't come to terms with the landlord. They also closed another longtime location in Dallas' West End in 2016, which had been there for 23 years.
There were also plans to open a location in Mansfield, billed as their biggest ever, but bigger is not better, according to a statement from CEO Aron Fogiel, who said that the Grapevine location represented a departure from their usual model.
"This location has experienced some unforeseen challenges that have led to the difficult decision to close," he said. “We ventured outside our usual, small, and intimate footprint, and have since realized that we couldn’t offer the same comfortable, personal experience in a building this large."
"We learned many valuable lessons to take with us as we continue to grow the Hoffbrau brand into the future," he said.
