Popular Dallas sushi spot expands west with new location in Grapevine
A Dallas sushi favorite is expanding west: Oishii, which has been a destination for sushi fans for nearly two decades, is opening a location in Grapevine.
The restaurant will open at 401 E. SH-114, in a space previously occupied by the straightforwardly named Sushi Happy Hour. According to a release, it'll open in September.
The Grapevine location continues an expansion that chef-owner Thanh Nguyen Oishii initiated in 2019.
Nguyen previously worked at restaurants such as Nakamoto in Plano and Steel in the Oak Lawn area before taking over a former Vietnamese buffet on Wycliff Avenue near Dallas' Oak Lawn neighborhood and opening his own place in 2003.
In 2020 he opened a second location at 5627 SMU Blvd., partially to provide a platform for his nephew and chef-partner Tri Tran, who is now Director of Operations. In 2021, they opened a location in Plano at 8448 Parkwood Blvd. #700, the intersection of SH-121. Grapevine will be the fourth.
The duo also opened LaVui Vietnamese Restaurant, at 5321 Maple Ave. Named for Nguyen's mother, LaVui serves Vietnamese staples including pho, rice bowls, shaking beef, pho, bowls, and banh mi; plus specialty spring rolls wrapped in rice paper, such as the Donut Store, a spring roll with shrimp, tuna, and avocado.
Oishii serves as a convenient lunch spot with reasonable prices on favorites like the spicy salmon cabbage salad and sushi lunch platter. At dinner, it's specials like Peking duck, coconut sea bass, crab & Chinese asparagus soup, and the Royce sushi roll drizzled with truffle oil.
The menu features maki rolls, a full sushi menu, and a pan-Asian menu with traditional Vietnamese and Chinese dishes.
They'll also have a sommelier-selected wine program, cocktails, and sake. Half Price Bottles of Wine Night will be every Tuesday.
The Grapevine location will incorporate a sushi bar, private dining space, and full-service bar.
