Breakfast at Old Neighborhood Grill
Venerable Fort Worth restaurant Old Neighborhood Grill, located at 1633 Park Place Ave., is closing after 27 years in the Park Place Village strip. According to a note from owners Brenda and Wallis Lester, the restaurant will close on June 15.
“Over the years, we have strived to provide more than just food; we sought out to create a space where community thrived and where the warmth of hospitality could be felt in every corner," the note read. "Your unwavering support has been truly appreciated.”
UPDATE 6-27-2025: The Old Neighborhood Grill is being resuscitated by Mazen Haddad, owner of Moe’s Cafes, who also owns Ginger Brown’s in Lake Worth, JR’s Cafe in Saginaw, and Benbrook Cafe in Benbrook. According to Haddad, the restaurant will reopen in July.

Old Neighborhood Grill initially came from restaurateur Phil Schroeder and opened in 1998. Ownership was turned over to couple Brenda and Wallis Lester when they bought the restaurant in 2018.
Though a reason wasn't provided in the note, an employee confirmed that it's closing because of rising costs. Ingredients became too expensive, and Lester didn't want to raise the prices on the menu in consideration of customers.
They were known for their diner-style atmosphere and a menu of breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Signature menu items included the chicken fried steak, grilled pork chops, sandwiches, and catfish.
The burgers were also a hit, with both beef and alternative patties such as turkey, black bean, and garden veggie burgers. Other items included tacos, salads, chicken tender baskets, and desserts like apple pie and carrot cake.
"The journey has been an incredible one filled with memories, laughter, and shared meals that we will cherish forever,” the note continued.
The building also holds a bit of history since it's more than 90 years old and was formerly home to a cake shop.
“Though we are closing this chapter, we carry with us the joy of serving you, the friendship we’ve formed, and the lessons learned along the way," the owners said in their note. "Each visit, every smile, and all those moments of connection have left an indelible mark on us.”
