This weekend around Fort Worth will offer the best variety of events the area has seen in over a year. Among the choices will be an exhibit based on a buzzy Fort Worth-set film, screenings of said film, concerts from two arts groups, concerts from two high-profile country stars, two theater productions, and a trio of big-time car races.

Below are the best ways to spend your precious free time this weekend.

Thursday, June 10

National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame presents "Twelve Mighty Orphans – Behind the Scenes: Laura Wilson"
The National Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame and the Fort Worth Film Commission will present the new exhibition, "Twelve Mighty Orphans – Behind the Scenes: Laura Wilson," featuring photography and props from the new film 12 Mighty Orphans. Wilson, an honoree in the museum, is the mother of Luke Wilson, who plays a leading role in the movie, which was filmed on location in Fort Worth. The film, which will screen at multiple area theaters, including as part of the Magnolia at the Modern series at the Modern Museum of Fort Worth, tells the story of the 1930s-era football team from Fort Worth that captured national attention during its Cinderella season. The exhibition will remain on display through August 7.

Cliburn Community Concert: Corrie Donovan and Evan Mitchell
As part of the Cliburn in the Community series, soprano Corrie Donovan and pianist Evan Mitchell will perform a series of free concerts over the next month at various locations around Fort Worth. The first concert will take place on Thursday at the Fort Worth Public Library – Golden Triangle, followed by the Fort Worth Public Library – East Regional on June 24, The Trailhead at Clearfork on June 26, and the Fort Worth Public Library – Meadowbrook on July 8.

Jimmie Allen in concert
Get on board the Jimmie Allen train now, because the up-and-coming country singer is likely to dominate the genre for years to come. He released his debut album, Mercury Lane, in 2018, and followed that up with the star-studded 2020 EP, Bettie James, featuring collaborations with Brad Paisley, the late Charley Pride, Darius Rucker, Tim McGraw, and more. He'll play at Billy Bob's Texas.

Friday, June 11

Dixie Longate: Sh*t K*cker
Fort Worth audiences are familiar with Dixie Longate from her Tupperware Party productions that have come back to town on multiple occasions. This production, playing at Downtown Cowtown at the Isis on Friday and Saturday, has Dixie comedically grappling with the effects the global shutdown during the pandemic has wrought on her family.

Hip Pocket Theatre presents Curmudgeon Boogie: Into the Shadows
Hip Pocket Theatre gets back to live productions with Curmudgeon Boogie: Into the Shadows. Old sourpuss Jimmy Curmudgeon lives alone on a lonely lakefront with his two dogs, never leaving his humble abode except for occasional journeys to the grocery store, or the neighborhood washateria, or to visit his wife, Queen Dee-Dee, at the nursing home where she has been bed-bound for five years. Jimmy is a collector of shadows kept in an old antique chest he visits from time to time in an attempt to relive adventures enjoyed in his distant past. Can music help Jimmy face reality or will he forever drown his spirit in past memories? The production will run through July 3.

Brantley Gilbert in concert
Brantley Gilbert has been one of the biggest country stars of the last decade. Following his 2009 debut album, he released four albums in the 2010s, with three of them reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Country charts, including his latest, 2019's Fire & Brimstone. His best known song is 2013's "Bottoms Up," but he's a reliable hit maker who shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon. He'll play at Billy Bob's Texas on Friday and Saturday.

Saturday, June 12

ALSCO Uniforms 250 & SpeedyCash.com 220
It's a doubleheader race day at Texas Motor Speedway, featuring both the NASCAR Xfinity Series and Camping World Truck Series. The day starts with trucks going 180 miles per hour in the ALSCO Uniforms 250, followed by the Xfinity Series' SpeedyCash.com 220 as NASCAR's rising stars look to secure a spot in the playoffs.

Sunday, June 13

Fort Worth Opera presents FWO GO: "Sounds of Summertime"

NASCAR All-Star Race
For the first time, Texas Motor Speedway will play host to NASCAR's annual All-Star Race, which this year will feature six rounds with anywhere from 10-30 laps per round. The event will include 17 drivers, including current points leader Denny Hamlin, Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott, William Byron, Joey Logano, and more. The winner will collect $1 million, and an additional $100,000 will be presented to the fastest pit crew in a mandatory stop near the end of the race.
