Hotel milestone
Fort Worth's Hotel Drover to expand Backyard bar and restaurant patios
Hotel Drover just marked its fifth anniversary.
The Fort Worth Stockyards' rustic-ritzy Hotel Drover just turned five years old, and to celebrate, it's giving a few birthday presents to guests.
As part of its milestone year, the hotel and its popular 97 West Kitchen & Bar are making a multi-million dollar resort upgrades designed to elevate the guest experience, they say. They're not revealing all of the changes yet, but a few are already in the works.
According to a release, the most significant enhancements will include:
Climate-controlled patio at 97 West: The 97 West patio will "evolve" to include a sleek new structure with year-round temperature control, allowing for comfortable alfresco dining during every season.
Outdoor & patio seating enhancements: In the shorter term, 97 West is expanding its outdoor patio capacity to better accommodate large groups
Additionally, new lounge-style seating will be added throughout The Backyard for social gatherings.
Expanded Pour Horse: Debuting this summer will be an expanded version of Pour Horse, the cute, vintage horse trailer-turned-bar in the Backyard. The bar will continue pouring handcrafted cocktails and cold beverages, specifically for the return of the popular Backyard Unplugged live music series, which will start up again Memorial Day Weekend.

Since opening on March 25, 2021, Hotel Drover has not only attracted guests from around the world, but has become a Fort Worth hotspot for milestone celebrations and events; fun date nights; and girlfriend gatherings. The enhancements, they say, promise to enhance the experience for guests who are there for a few hours or a few days.
"When we broke ground in 2018, we promised to build more than just a hotel,” says Kristin Assad, Chief Operating Officer, Stockyards Heritage Development Co., in the release. “Seeing Hotel Drover reach this five-year milestone as a global destination proves that the spirit of the West is as vibrant today as it was a century ago.”
There's even more on the horizon, including changes to Hotel Drover's popular holiday decorations and experience. According to the release, they include:
- Stay & Celebrate Offer (Summer 2026): A limited-time anniversary package featuring a dining credit, commemorative red leather luggage tag, and more.
- Commemorative Collaborations (Fall 2026): A series of limited-edition collections with respected brands that honor Western craftsmanship and spirit. Each collaboration will offer guests a collectible way to take a piece of the anniversary celebration home.
- Holiday Magic (Winter 2026): A seasonal refresh across the resort, enhancing the holiday décor from the lobby to The Backyard.

A site dedicated to the Hotel Drover fifth anniversary, and its evolution in the past years, has just gone live, at hoteldrover.com/Anniversary. Additionally, the hotel is encouraging guests to share special memories of the hotel. "One selected entry will inspire a commemorative social media film, showcasing the warmth and wonder that define the property, and the winning guest will receive a return stay to continue their story where it began," they say.
When Hotel Drover debuted, shortly after the "icepocalypse" of winter 2021, CultureMap called it "a ritzy Stockyards retreat with a fun backyard surprise."
Burrowed beside Marine Creek, between Northeast 23rd Street and East Exchange Avenue, the Hotel Drover, a Marriott Autograph Collection property, was (and still is) the crown jewel of the $175 million Mule Alley district, a giant Stockyards redevelopment project spearheaded by Majestic Realty and The Hickman Company.
Since its opening, it has racked up numerous national and international awards, including being named best DFW hotel in Travel + Leisure's 2025 World's Best Awards.
