Weekend Event Planner
Hometown crooner Luke Wade headlines best weekend events in Fort Worth
Most of the events worth doing in Fort Worth this weekend are continuing ones we've already highlighted, but there are still a few new ones that should be fun. They include concerts from a music veteran and an up-and-comer, a new photography exhibit, and the opening of possibly the biggest movie of all time.
Below are the best options for your precious free time Thursday through Sunday. Don't like what you see? Lucky for you, we have a much longer list of the city's best events.
Thursday, December 17
Fort Worth Museum of Science and History presents Christmas Night Sky
This show at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History is a historical, theological, and astronomical overview of what the Christmas star could have been. The show, running every day except Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in the Noble Planetarium, answers the questions around the Christmas star’s origin and its timing to the best of the ability of the research currently available.
Friday, December 18
Texas Ballet Theater presents The Nutty Nutcracker
We've already talked about Texas Ballet Theater's production of The Nutcracker, but it's worth highlighting this particular performance again since it differs from all the others. Taking a break from the usual story, The Nutty Nutcracker is a racy, zany take on pop culture that's decidedly not for children. It will run one time only at Bass Performance Hall.
Hal Ketchum in concert
Country music singer Hal Ketchum may have been born in New York, but Texas is what made him a star, as he first started playing music after moving to Austin. Ketchum has released 11 albums since 1988, including his most recent, I'm the Troubadour, in 2014. He'll play songs from throughout his career at the Live Oak Music Hall & Lounge.
Luke Wade in concert
It's been just over a year since Fort Worth's Luke Wade completed his run on NBC's The Voice, a journey that's still paying dividends for the soulful singer. He continues to travel around the country playing gigs, but we here in the Dallas-Fort Worth are lucky to get to see him more than any others. He'll play a special free holiday show in Sundance Square.
Saturday, December 19
Fort Worth Museum of Science and History presents Exploring America: A Photographic Journey
The Fort Worth Museum of Science and History will partially turn into an art gallery when it opens Exploring America: A Photographic Journey, featuring photographs by David Hares II from his explorations of America’s national parks and the places in between. Whether you've been to the places in the photos or are seeing them for the first time, you'll be awed by the beauty they contain. The exhibit will be on display through March 19, 2016.
Sunday, December 20
Star Wars: The Force Awakens at Omni IMAX Dome at Fort Worth Museum of Science and History
If you don't see Star Wars: The Force Awakens this weekend, you'll probably be the only one, as it's on track to have the biggest opening weekend of all time. There may be no better place to see it than the Omni IMAX Dome at the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, as the curved screen allows you to be enveloped in the action. Believe it or not, there are still some tickets available for Sunday screenings, so get 'em while you can.
