Weekend Event Planner
These are the 8 best things to do in Fort Worth this weekend
It's another eclectic weekend, events-wise, in Fort Worth, starting with a rare appearance by an amazing Dallas dance company. Plus there are three fun concerts and not one but two bar crawls to get an early start on St. Patrick's Day.
Below are the best options for your precious free time Thursday through Sunday. Don't like what you see? Lucky for you, we have a much longer list of the city's best events.
Thursday, March 10
Dallas Black Dance Theatre presents Dancing Beyond Borders
Dallas Black Dance Theatre and Dallas Black Dance Theatre II travel west to perform two stunning new works. Testament abstractly depicts five biblical themes using a blend of modern and contemporary dance set to contemporary classical music, while Opaque is a dynamic high-energy work that explores the lack of transparency in human interactions. The performance takes place at W.E. Scott Theatre.
Stage West Theatre presents The Nether
The new production from Stage West, The Nether, is set in the not-too-distant future in which a detective investigates a virtual reality site where taboo acts of secret desires are blurring moral boundaries. She finds herself in a battle of wills with a charismatic suspect and wrestles with the question, is there a crime if bodies are virtual and blood is just bits of computer code? The show runs through April 10.
Friday, March 11
The Goodguys 6th Spring Lone Star Nationals
Car lovers unite at Texas Motor Speedway for the Goodguys 6th Spring Lone Star Nationals, a giant custom car festival featuring more than 2,000 hot rods, classics, street rods, muscle cars, and trick trucks nestled into the infield. In addition to the car show, the festival includes vendor exhibits, a swap meet and cars-for-sale area, track cruise around the high-banked TMS oval for registered show car participants, and more. It takes place through Sunday.
Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra presents The Sounds of New Orleans
Louis Armstrong is one of the most famous jazz musicians of all time, and the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra pays tribute to him and the sounds of New Orleans with this concert, featuring trumpeter and singer Byron Stripling. Playing three times through Sunday at Bass Performance Hall, the concert transports audiences straight to the Big Easy.
Billy Currington in concert
Country singer Billy Currington must be doing something right, as he continues to be at or near the top of charts six albums into his relatively short career. He's chalked up nine No. 1 Country Airplay songs since 2006, including "Don't It" off his latest album, Summer Forever. He plays a late night show at Billy Bob's Texas.
Saturday, March 12
2016 St. Pat's Bar Crawl Fort Worth
When St. Patrick's Day falls in the middle of a week like it does this year, you have two choices if you're not a weekday drinker: Celebrate early or celebrate late. You can get started early at this bar crawl at West 7th, starting at Bar Louie before moving on to places like Varsity Tavern, Abbey Pub, Poag Mahone's Irish Pub, Brewsters West, and Studio Eighty.
Terri Clark in concert
Canadian country singer Terri Clark was a big deal back in the late 1990s/early 2000s, racking up multiple top 10 hits and best-selling albums. She's hit a bit of a lull in recent years, but she's still cranking out good music, including her most recent album, 2014's Some Songs. Like Currington, she plays a late-night show at Billy Bob's.
Sunday, March 13
West 7th Fort Worth presents St. Paddy's Day Pub Crawl
No, we didn't accidentally repeat the event from Saturday. This is a completely different crawl — note the word "pub" instead of "bar" — officially hosted by West 7th. This one is for a good cause, as part of the registration fee goes to Autism Therapy in Fort Worth. Participants also get a custom accessory to wear and are encouraged to don crazy costumes in an attempt to win the costume contest.
